Idols

Everyone has idols, people they look up to , idolize. But what characteristics are needed to be an idol, a leader? Who do I look up to? Who do I have respect for? There are times I feel like people idolize the undeserving, people that should never be put on a pedestal. Sometimes I wonder why this happens, why do people look up to that person? Is it because they want to be like that person, do they have respect for that person. Maybe its admiration or just attraction.Possibly they identify with the words of the "idol". I don't know. But I've had too many lessons learned about idolization and admiration. Once you put someone on a pedestal they have a tendency to fall off, some more dramatically than others.
Now I have become weary and I find myself not wanting to idolize, admire anyone. Partly because I fear their failures and I want to shield myself from disappointment. I always question if I idolize them for who they truly are or what they are trying to represent to me. I question if idolize or admire a person. Because idolization is the extreme of admiration.Idolizing is risky behavior, it sometimes acts as a blinder. Regardless if you admire or idolize you can be blind to the truths of the world and people. But maybe that's not all that bad...they say ignorance is bliss.
